Here are some commonly asked questions. Email me with any questions you have that aren’t answered here.
I am a certified personal trainer with NCSF and a certified Health Coach with ACE. This means I will provide you with advice about exercise and movement as part of our health and well-being coaching. I can also oversee your gym sessions if we are located in the same place. Our coaching will focus on exercise and movement as a key element of health and well-being. I will work with you to develop a movement and exercise plan that suits you.
Yes, my whole approach to health and well-being is built around coaching you. This is a proven way to make sure that any changes you make are long lasting.
Most people start their journey to better health and well-being by focusing on just one or two elements of overall health. They might start with exercise and diet, but forget about sleep, rest, resilience etc. They may start with mediation but not think about how exercise helps calm our mind as well.
Taking a holistic approach means not just focusing on a single element of health and well-being, but recognizing that they all impact and support each other. If you exercise more, you will rest better and think better. If you eat more nutritional dense foods, your mood will be better. They are all connected and by taking a holistic approach we can maximize how healthy you are.
I do not provide specific detailed diet plans. That is for a specialised nutritionist to do according to your specific needs and goals. I will provide general advice about healthy, nutritionally dense eating and I will support any advice you get from nutritional specialists.
I do not provide medical advice. That is a job for your medical professional/s. I will work closely with your doctor or other medical professional to ensure you are getting the right health and well-being coaching for you.
Before we start sessions I will get you to fill out some information gathering forms to see if you need medical approval before starting your health and well-being journey.
True health and well-being comes from a holistic approach and it really is impossible to separate mind and body – in fact, we should stop referring to them as separate elements. My coaching is based on a holistic approach that treats you as a fully functioning human being. We will work on many aspects of health and well-being to ensure you are thriving and flourishing.
Working on your health & well-being may be a good way to assist with symptoms of depression. Before starting any coaching we would need to talk about your current state and whether we needed to get approval from a medical practitioner first.
This is entirely up to you and where you are at in your journey. At the beginning we may meet once or twice a week, and as you become your own health and well-being expert we may move to once a month.
No. Most of my coaching is done via Video (Skype or Zoom) so it doesn't matter where you are. In person is always best for actual physical training sessions. For coaching sessions we can meet in person, by telephone or video.
Yes. Part of achieving full health and well-being is looking at all aspects and not just focusing on diet and exercise. Mindfulness and meditation practice has been conclusively shown to assist all aspects of health.
That's just plain wrong. Log on to YouTube and check out the videos of the 80 year old bodybuilder, or the 70 year old triathlete, or the 90 year old cyclist. I am in my 50's and know that there is no upper limit to good health and well-being.
Yes (and no). I work with people who want to be better than they are today in every way because they know they can be better. Because of my own background I can understand what its like to have been fit and healthy and not be that anymore. I know how hard it is to make new habits and break old ones, and I know the benefits that come with a holistic approach to health and well-being. If this sounds like you, then you are my perfect client.
A typical session usually focuses on coaching you in the areas that are most pressing. We may meet in person, on the phone, or over video. The coaching session will look at ways you can be successful, look at ways to get there and make sure we have some way to measure progress. Sessions can change depending on what you need at the time.
My one-on-one sessions cost between $80 - $150 per hour depending on your needs, and the amount of sessions you need. My group sessions are similar and can be split between the group members. Let's chat to figure out what works best for you.
Yes. Most of my coaching is one-on-one but I also coach groups of people who are interested in working together to coach and support each other. It's also a great way to spread the cost and find support from friends.
Yes, as long as you have their permission and agreement to start coaching.
